Pair coastal bliss with urban awe to create your perfect Italian holiday with this independent and flexible vacation. This trip is a fine introduction to Italy and an ideal start to any European holiday. And because you’re traveling independently, what you do and what you see at each destination are up to you.

Fly into Naples where you’ll be transferred by private car to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site comprised of twenty-eight miles of rugged coastline and picturesque towns. Here you are free to explore at your own pace and according to your interests. Consider day trips to Capri’s mysterious Blue Grotto, scenic Sorrento and ancient Pompeii, another UNESCO World Heritage site.

Then leave the natural wonders of the coast behind for the man-made wonders of the Eternal City of Rome, home to the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and much more. You’ll enjoy first-class rail travel from Naples where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the passing scenery. Once in Rome, customize your holiday by adding optional tours to Vatican City, Rome’s Catacombs or Tivoli. It's the perfect way to see Italy!

Price includes:
• 6 nights accommodations in 4-star hotels: 4 nights in Sorrento and 2 nights in Rome
• Daily breakfast
• Private car transfer from Naples airport to Sorrento upon arrival
• First-class rail from Naples to Rome

Note: Additional nights can be added in any city and additional sightseeing is available. See below for a sampling of optional tours. Upgraded hotels can also be requested. Inquire at time of booking.

Day 1 - Arrive in Naples, Italy
Arrive in Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will be met and transferred by private car to the your hotel in Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast, a chic resort area bathed in sunshine with stunning blue vistas and home to several charming towns.
Accommodation: Amalfi Coast hotel - 4 nights

Day 2 - Amalfi Coast
Enjoy a full day to explore Sorrento and the surrounding area. There is a good public bus system available along the Amalfi coast. Sorrento is located atop a bluff on the Sorrento peninsula, created by the Lattari mountains, and has stunning views of the Bay of Naples.

Day 3 - Amalfi Coast
We suggest taking the ferry to Capri Island for a day trip to visit the famous Blue Grotto (additional cost).

Day 4 - Amalfi Coast
Today we suggest a short bus ride to Sorrento (5 miles) followed by a local train to Pompeii (approx. a 30-minute ride). Visit Pompeii (additional cost) where the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. buried the town of Pompeii. It is considered the only archeological site which offers a genuinely realistic view of a Roman city, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 5 - Train to Rome
Take the train from Sorrento to Rome. First travel by local train to Naples (fare not included and must be paid locally – approx. $5 per person). Then board your connecting train to Rome. Upon arrival, transfer on your own to the hotel.
Accommodation: Centrally-located Rome hotel - 2 nights

Day 6 - Rome

Enjoy the many sights of ancient and modern Rome on your own. You may decide to explore the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum or the Spanish Steps, as well as the many shops and cafes. Or, we suggest an excursion to the Vatican City that includes the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. After dinner treat yourself to a gelato or an espresso, and stroll by the fountains of Piazza Navona.

Day 7 - Depart Rome
Depart Rome for your home city. Transfer to the airport on your own.
